On Saturday, May 13, the Iles House hosted a brunch for 50 descendants of Washington Iles, the brother of Elijah Iles. Family members, some from as far away as Texas and Connecticut, were in Springfield to observe the burial of Thelma Iles Teal at the Iles Family Plot in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
The family presented to the Iles House a pistol and holster once used by Elijah Iles. Washington Iles was a resident of Springfield and the owner of several farms, one of them now the site of the University of Illinois at Springfield.
We don't have the names of all these nice folks, but they are related by blood or marriage to Thelma Iles Teal, a charter member of the Elijah Iles House Foundation. For more information on Iles family history, see the Iles Family Genealogy Forum.

Stan & Tarji Johnston of Rolla, Mo would like to thank the Iles Foundation for treating us with such kindness and consideration. We very much enjoyed our time at the Iles house. Of course, we will welcome the addition of an elevator as Tarji is confined to a wheelchair and was unable to tour the house with the other family members. Thanks also goes to Aunt Linda Peyton for all her efforts in gathering all of us together in celebration of Thelma Iles Teel's life.
Stan and Tarji,
We are very sorry for your inconvenience. Some recent developments indicate that we will be able to install a lift on the property instead of a more expensive elevator, and that we almost have the funds in hand. So we hope on your next visit to Springfield, Tarji will be able to take a full tour of the Iles House.
Will Howarth
